How Astrologers Work ✨🔮
1) The AI Astrologer
Since last year, you can upload your birth chart to ChatGPT and request an interpretation, as shown in the picture below:
Please note that ChatGPT cannot select the appropriate zodiac (Sidereal or Tropical) or house system (Equal, Whole, Placidus, etc.) for you. You must first understand your birth chart settings, which involves analyzing the birth chart with both zodiacs and testing different house systems to determine which one resonates with you. To choose your birth chart settings, use this link on Astro.com. Use our Birth Chart Accuracy Worksheet to streamline this process.
Once you’ve uploaded the correct birth chart, ChatGPT will answer any questions about the placement of planets in signs and houses, as well as their aspects.
However, when addressing real-life questions, AI models like ChatGPT often deliver broad, generic responses (see answer below regarding George Clooney’s life purpose) that lack specificity. These models are trained on widely available commercial astrology books from platforms like Amazon, but they lack practical interpretative experience.
2) The Western Commercial Astrologer
Commercial astrologers are often gifted creative writers (5th house) or talented storytellers (2nd house) who leverage astrological archetypes to captivate social media audiences. They typically stick to the Tropical zodiac, reflecting their Western upbringing. Many avoid offering readings, aware that their knowledge may not suffice for addressing real-life questions. Their primary goal is to create captivating content (e.g. horoscopes) for a wide audience, earning revenue through social media advertising or book sales.
Those who do provide readings often lack a robust foundation, having studied only Western astrology or Hellenistic astrology. This can lead to client dissatisfaction, and the resulting guilt often prompts them to discontinue their practice.
3) The Vedic Astrologer
Vedic astrology offers a depth far surpassing Western astrology, equipping Vedic astrologers with a superior grasp of birth chart interpretation compared to their Western counterparts. While Western astrology primarily uses planetary transits to predict life events, Vedic astrology also employs the Vimshottari Dasha system, based on the Moon’s position in Lunar Mansions (nakshatras), which offers remarkable precision. Vedic astrologers also excel at analyzing charts from multiple perspectives and may master divisional charts to validate interpretations of the primary birth chart.
A key challenge with Vedic astrologers is their near-exclusive use of the Sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri Ayanamsa, which can lead to inaccurate readings—similar to the Western reliance on the Tropical zodiac. In such cases, they typically claim that the time of birth was inaccurate.
Birth chart settings should be customized to each individual for optimal accuracy.
4) The Psychic or Intuitive Astrologer
Psychics are individuals blessed with strong 8th and/or 12th house placements and may use various tools, such as tarot cards, numerology, or astrology, to connect with clients. They typically offer guidance over the phone or via video. When they use a birth chart, they identify as psychic or intuitive astrologers. In these cases, the birth chart serves as a conversational tool rather than a foundational element. For them, the accuracy of the birth time or the choice of zodiac and house system doesn’t matter. In psychic readings, the client’s energy guides the session, regardless of the tools used.
*Self-proclaimed psychic astrologers who do not offer live readings but only produce content for social media are considered commercial astrologers (creative writers - 5th house).
5) The Psychologist or Therapist Astrologer
The psychologist or therapist astrologer is a qualified professional who holds the credentials to maintain a private practice and provide psychotherapy in accordance with legal regulations. They have experience addressing mental health challenges and utilize a wide array of tools, such as MBTI, Big Five, and DSM-5, to understand an individual’s personality and the roots of their struggles. When they incorporate the birth chart as a tool for investigation, they identify as astrologers, blending their expertise in psychology with astrology.
6) The Scholarly Astrologer
Scholarly astrologers, with a prominent 9th house like ourselves, thoroughly analyze the birth chart from every perspective. The birth chart reflects an individual’s subconscious mind, so we strive to uncover the hidden desires and challenges within it that ultimately shape one’s destiny.
Our process is analytical. Before a reading, we confirm the accuracy of the birth time, choose the appropriate zodiac and house system, and then conduct the reading using a systematic approach to provide a precise and detailed interpretation.
For example, in our Life Purpose Reading, we assess the strength of all houses in the birth chart, as the most prominent houses indicate the individual’s talents. We believe life’s purpose lies in using these talents to serve others. As a result, our readings demand significant time and a methodical, investigative approach, typically delivered in written form. In these reports, we detail the methodology used, and clients can ask follow-up questions to fully grasp the reading’s insights.
